It's time we march for democracy

Citizens United. The most expensive election in U.S. history. McCutcheon. Big money's corruption of American politics is so complete that we can no longer deny the truth: democracy is dead in America. Plutocracy, government by and for the wealthy, is here.

The voices of the 99% have been silenced by the deafening demands of moneyed interests. The principle of “one person, one vote” has been quietly abolished in favor of the corporate mantra, “one dollar, one vote”. As long as this corruption lasts, real change won’t come. It’s time for the millions of Americans who believe in true political equality to stand up and fight.

From the international "March Against Corruption" protests, to the statewide New Hampshire Rebellion, to civil disobedience in the chamber of the Supreme Court itself, more and more people are stepping up and joining the struggle to reclaim democracy for the 99%. Our movement is growing and our message is spreading.

Now it’s time to raise the stakes and take the fight for democracy to a whole new level.

On Saturday, May 17th, we gathered in Los Angeles to begin a 480-mile march over the mountains and across the valleys of California on our way to the capitol in Sacramento, all to bring a simple demand to the political leaders of our nation’s largest state: publicly acknowledge the crisis of corruption and take immediate action to end it.

Help us amplify our demand by adding your name to the petition we'll be delivering at the capitol!

As a first step, we will demand that the California legislature take three urgent actions:

  1. Issue a formal call for a federal Constitutional Convention to propose an Amendment outlawing big money corruption by passing Assembly Joint Resolution 1 (AJR1).
  2. Give California's voters the chance to formally instruct the US Congress to propose such an Amendment and the California legislature to ratify it by passing Senate Bill 1272 (SB1272).
  3. Start reining in unlimited, anonymous big money in elections by passing the DISCLOSE Act to require the top donors to be prominently revealed in every political ad they fund.

If we arrive in Sacramento after our 37-day march and our demands have not been fully met, then we will nonviolently occupy the capitol until they are. We the people will no longer stand idly by while our government is bought and sold to the highest bidder. We will force our political leaders to come over to the side of the people and push for the end to big money corruption and the beginning of a representative democracy that is dependent upon the people alone.

A call for fundamental change from California will send a message of hope throughout the country that something big is coming, a movement of the 99% that the people can proudly call their own. Join us, and help turn the tide.

I’ve started the petition “The president elected in 2016: change campaign finance” and need your help to get it off the ground.

Will you take 30 seconds to sign it right now? Here’s the link:

    Here’s why it’s important:

I would like to have a word with you about citizen united. All of the donor companies and organizations were in control of our government before citizen united. The only difference is now it’s overwhelming. So if we let the politicians get elected on the grounds they will overturn citizens united we will be the loser again because nothing will change. In speaking of politicians they really don’t have much choice. If they don’t get the money to compete they are out. If they take the money they are beholding. One man gives one million dollars and one hundred thousand people give you ten dollars who would you listen to. Next come’s the news media every four years they stand to bring in close to two billion dollars. That’s not state or local elections. The point is they don’t care what said or how often it’s said wither its true or a lie they want the money. How about the Supreme Court can you honestly think corporations are people? Need I say more? Therein lays the reason things are so messed up.

Now president Obama received over sixty million votes so I know how many people are looking to make this country what it should and can be and that how much support we will need. It is not going to easy everyone in the establishment is going to be opposed to the petition I am going to ask you to sign. Before you think to yourself that it is a waste of time just consider what at stake. So roll up your sleeves and do what you can to make this a success God bless and God bless America.

To the newly elected president please do as the petition asks.

Do you believe in the separation of church and state? If so, maybe you would be in favor of separation of corporate power and the government.

    On Political Contributions

Private or corporate owned business may not contribute to any Federal, State, or local government election in the United States.

All for profit or nonprofit organization may not contribute to any Federal, State, or local government election in the United States.

Any business or organization may campaign and advertise for any candidate they choose provided they have polled the shareholders or organization members, and have at least a 50% majority by secret ballot approving their choice. They will be required to show proof that they have done so and disclose the name of the organization they represent when advertising. There must also be a $2,500 limit for personal contributions. This amount should be tied to the rate of inflation.

When the federal government passes this and it’s made law if the Supreme Court rules it unconstitutional we also request an amendment to the constitution. It shall read as followed.

A newly elected president shall have a onetime opportunity to replace three Supreme Court justices. He may replace any three at his discretions. They must be confirmed or denied by the United States Senate within 30 calendar days of submission.

You can sign my petition by clicking here.

We the people have spoken… Our representatives were elected to represent US, not those who pour the most money into their bank accounts. I fully support this march and everything it stands for.

Occupy Sac enthusiastically endorses 99Rise’s March for Democracy and its present campaign of ongoing nonviolent direct actions at the California State Capitol to demand that we do away with the corrupting influence of big money in politics, end the plutocracy that has gripped this country’s political process, and let real democracy fluorish.

I would like to correspond with someone about an idea to end the bribery (and that is what this is all about) some of us have been discussing. Please drop me an email.
